THE Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill received Royal Assent yesterday, empowering the Government to bring in a large and wide-ranging number of changes and reforms including important employment law provisions.

A detailed implementation plan is to be announced later by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, but it has confirmed that the current Agricultural Wages Order remains in place until October 1st this year when the Agricultural Wages Board is abolished.

Certain provisions on employment including ensuring that the two year qualification period for unfair dismissal will not apply where the main reason for dismissal is the employee’s political opinions or affiliation, simplifying Employment Tribunal procedures, and new provisions on whistleblowing, will come into force on 25th June this year.

Most other provisions are planned to come into effect in October 2013 or April 2014.
